My Verizon jetpack is my only internet connection both at home and on the road and I have the 16GB plan for $76.50/mo with my military discount ($90 non discounted) and they have added a 2GB bonus per line per mo so in effect I have 20GB/mo and this plan also has carryover for one month. While this plan is no longer available it has the option to increase the actual full speed access when needed for however long you need it in like 4 or 8gb increments.

I've had this plan for almost 2 years and with 2 smartphones, one IPAD and my laptop used mainly for internet I have averaged around 10 to 12 GB per mo. The only time I see a spike in usage is when I do map updates on my two Garmin GPS units or do IOS updates on my phones or IPAD.

Wifi is hit and miss but we use it when available.

The "unlimited" plans typically aren't really unlimited. They throttle or cut off or have horrible coverage.

When we can't get wifi, we use the hot spot but for videos or other high data consuming activities, you will burn thru data at an amazing rate.

One reason I go is to get away from everything except my cellphone which BTW is so old it has a dial on the face.:)

I use wifi extensively and have never had a plan. I use free and available wifi, There are very few cities/towns that don't have a wifi connection. Hotels, restaurants, civic offices like court houses, libraries and city halls. People that use wifi as part of their trip have all kinds of ways to access.

It really is about the money. A user that has a fancy plan? or a user that chooses to budget.

It all depends on too many variables to give a complete answer. We use the campground wifi quite a lot. But we tend to travel in early spring or early fall, so there are generally speaking, fewer people staying in the campground. We also tend to make use of wifi in the morning, or early afternoon, and usually find the service usable. Trying to use most campground wifi any time after 5:00 in the afternoon is usually a wasted effort.

If you need consistent internet connection you pretty much will have to supply your own. What you choose will depend on how much data you plan to use, and how fast you need it to be.

I tend not to do too much online while traveling. What little I do use is most often on my phone (A tracfone, so it's about as far from unlimited as it's possible to get). Mostly it gets used for looking up weather or travel information.

In my experience, RV park wifi has varied from none to practically unusable to barely adequate to really good, but usually more towards the lower end of the scale. Public campgrounds almost always have none. There's also sometimes no reliable cell service at some public campgrounds, for that matter.

Unlimited data plan on Verizon phone. Don't remember how much "hot-spotting", but I know it is metered.

I just do my computing via Android.

I used to have a Verizon mifi..

now I have a Verizon tablet with a hotspot for internet... everywhere..... even in a moving truck if needed. 4LTE internet.

not cheap.. I have the 8gb a month plan.. with 2 phones..

We, too, have both AT&T and Verizon mifis and have been covered darned near everywhere we go in Virginia.
