Lots of berries and things in August, big learning curve ahead. Most places you can pick the berries by the roadside, however remember along a busy highway they are dusted in tire residue and combustion products from traffic.
I don't know of a good guide book, but I seem to recall a book called "Edible Wild". I use classes at a community college to learn about edibles in new areas.
