I was thinking about this as we traveled on our annual vacation...so many times you pull into a campground and are confronted with a multitude of signs telling you what you Can't Do...as opposed to a warm, welcoming feeling. You feel as if you are imposing on a distant relative, and paying them to boot.
We have been spending a little more time in hotel rooms the past year and the hospitality shown there far outweighs what you get at a campground (customer service, etc). I know you pay more for a room. But I think it's about time the campground industry thought of itself as the hospitality industry and treated its customers appropriately.
Granted, there have been some that have done just that. But they are rare. Just my two cents.
I wouldn't want to stay in any campground that didn't have the basic rules I come across in my travels. I've seen campers that even a posted sign or a discussion with a host wasn't enough to get them to stop violating a campgrounds rules. You know the saying, a few ruin it for everybody. They're a small percentage, but they are out there and in full belief the rules don't apply to them.
Posted or printed doesn't matter to me as long as they are enforced. I'm willing to bet, they don't spend the cash to put them on signs and in your face until it's clear some people are not reading or following them. Maybe a hotel doesn't need some of the things campgrounds do because the rooms are much more private and peoples activities are not going to be in view or bother other guests.
Never had any issues with campground hosts, volunteers, managers, staff of any type. They have always been welcoming, professional, polite, helpful with answering questions or getting local info, directions, suggestions for activities in the area.
Count me in the lucky column I guess.
