The ice is going to melt in what, 15 minutes or so? It then becomes, uh, um, lets see. Oh, thats right. WATER.
Might as well just give the tank a good dose of water, along with the additives of choice. The only way to possibly do the job a bit better would be to send a load of hot water down there & go for a drive.
After all, hot water helps keep home drain pipes clean.
