Will RidEx decompose flushables?

Putting aside the discussion of whether or not flushables wipes should be used in the black tank for the moment, if they were to be used would adding RidEx to the tank help decompose them? Our black tank is over 60 gallons so we can go about two weeks before we have to dump while we're snowbirding. If they were to be used I'd like to minimize the chances they would cause a blockage while dumping the black tank. Thanks.

  • They take a long time to break up, stick to the sides of the tanks. Ridx is a good product designed for septic systems. For the most part will do no good in a temporary holding tank.
  • Most wipes are not biodegradable and break up very slowly if at all. And unless you can get them out promptly, they act as perfect collectors of fats/oils, which can cause major problems. As witness the FOURTEEN TON so-called "fatberg" pried out of the London sewer system a couple of years ago. Which now that I think of it is one more reason not to flush them in your RV- save the sewer it gets dumped into!
  • Almost anything that is advertized as "flushable" is only "flushable" if you are on city sewer.
Even then, the city's sewer people almost universally hate them, as they gum up the systems.
  • Just use a lot of water..Nothing else is needed. You might have to dump more often because of all the water...

  • No. Your tanks are "holding tanks" not septic tanks. Any "septic safe" tissue will disolve normally in the tank and solids will disolve normally with proper amount of use. Water is really all you need. All other "flushables" should be avoided as you are not "flushing" them like you would at home.
  • NO, I have had to clean a blockage due to "flushables".

They are not for holding tanks.
