Will the Andersen hitch work well for my rig?

TV:
2015 GMC Sierra Denali HD Duramax/Allison 3/4 ton, 13,000 lbs. towing capacity, 2294 lbs. payload, 7383 lbs. curb weight

TT:
Airstream 30' International with an empty weight of 6700 lbs and GVWR of about 8880 lbs. I think the tongue weight will be around 1000 lbs.

Will I need much in the way of WD with this set-up?

Will the Andersen hitch be up to the job?
  • Just a word of caution here.. most of the couplers that Andersen states are not compatible are used on Airstreams.

I have an email from Andersen stating such, so please no flaming.

If it turns out that you have a "shark fin" Atwood coupler then you will either have to roll the dice, change the coupler, or use a different WD hitch.

    Thanks!

  • I'd be a little concerned about the tongue weight; the Andersen probably won't get the rig level.
  • Which Andersen Hitch are you referring to?

Yes, you should use weight distribution hitch.... if it were me with your rig and trailer combo, I'd go 1400lb spring bars.
  • Andersen should work great for you. I towed my 7000# Kodiak TT with an Andersen WDH on my 2015 GMC 2500 HD Allison./diesel and it was smooth, quiet and no sway. When I switched to a larger Fifth wheel I stuck with Andersen and use their Ultimate Fifth hitch. Great company, great engineering design. I highly recommend.
