Wind!

Put a cover on the camper bout a month ago and didn’t run any of the straps around it. It’s super sheltered where it’s at and actually watched in yesterday in a wind storm and it was barely moving. Figgered it was pretty skookum after seeing the trees bending sideways in the wind and the cover just looked happy.
Ha! I came home tonight power was out. No lights in the drive. Went back out to my truck after getting the genny fired up and **** camper was sitting there naked!
Cover laid out behind it perfectly straight like it was ready to be rolled up!
Guess all them straps are there for a reason. Lol!

It's OK to think things. I've covered 5 different trailers from Nov to April going back about 15 years and have yet to witness any damage from them, I think I'll keep using them, they're Skookum, whatever the #$%@ that means lol.

The storage yard I use has 1000 RV's and not one single cover. None of the other local storage places have any RV's with covers. Could I be in the majority who don't use covers?

Another reason I do not cover is that I do use my RV in extreme cold. If the cover were frozen it would not be too easy to remove it.
  • Yep, you paid for them straps use them!
I’ve covered both my last trailers and I had no damage from the cover. You need to pad any protrusions and make sure the straps are tight!

Depening on where you live YES. (mostly yes some places NO)

Roll it up and put it away.

Wind.. been and a couple of Stiff Breezes in my motor home.

    What's a stiff breeze.

Hang a long chain from a cross beam outside
if it's gently swaying that's a light breeze
if it's swing rather good, that's a strong breeze
if it's parallel to the ground.. That's a stiff breeze.

Seriously 100MPH or more. NOT FUN let me tell you.

It was meant to be, because I have been thinking about strapping it up and after seeing it in the storm this weekend, I was like pffft this will stay put on here!
  • I use a cab forward cover on my truck. Allows me to launch right from storage instead of first going to a car wash. No known damage from the cover.

I recently have to replace the front bungee hold downs as they have rotted in the sun. My good ones walked away :(

Thanks for that wonderful insight Mr. Tuna!

I think I'd like another 12x40 bay in the shop to park it in, but you know the old saying. Wish in 1 hand, poop in the other and see which one fill sup first.
So until then, I'll keep the sun, moisture, bird poop, streaks, leaves and branches off of it with a cover.

Having been a previous cover advocate and frustrated with the worn paint from the straps, I'd rather deal with that then faded and cracked decals which we just replaced for about $5k.
