That's me in the third picture (evidence of just how friendly the conditions are here), and it is indeed a 3/2 wetsuit. I wear it unless it's blazing outside just to keep the sun off me. And I do get kind of hot in it, but just dip in the water and that makes it better.
There are quite a few 3/2 suits around. Yesterday was a norther and one guy had with no wetsuit at all and what looks like a thermal shirt, and a woman was was wearing a 5/? wetsuit with a wind jacket over it. Carey was in his 3/2 with a life jacket (helps block the wind), and I didn't sail because I don't like to be cold, or what passes for cold around here.
People are saying that what we're having now is pretty normal. I have only three weeks experience, but so far, when the wind's from the south, the high tends to be between 65 and 75, and when there's a norther, the high is in the 50s or so, and it stays that way for only a couple of days. Last week, we had the air conditioner on.
Here are a couple of links I use for the wind and temperature forecasts:
South Padre Island sailflowBird Island sailflowFor the next week, the temps are about the same at both places, but it's windier in SPI.
Also, you in particular should know that you drive across a long causeway and bridge to get here. The other day I had two boards on top of the car and I'll tell you, I got nervous. It was real windy and I was getting buffeted around by the crosswind and there's nowhere to pull over. So cinch that stuff down good.
I'm jealous you spent time in Key West. I've been trying to get there for a couple of years now but it's never happened. One day, for sure.
