Do you get Windsurfing Magazine? There's a photo of the Hatchery on page 64 of the June 2011 issue that perfectly illustrates what I
don't look for in a sailing location. :E
One cool thing about Canadian Hole is that the land is real narrow right there--like the width of the road. So you can sail flat water on one side, and carry your stuff across the street and sail waves. I'm not sure it's
good wave sailing, but if I were a wave sailor it would probably be something I'd do just because I could.
If you haven't ridden Sedona, keep your eye out for the Arizona Spring Fling. They have organized rides in Tucson, Phoenix, and Sedona/Black Canyon. Sedona can be a tough place to figure out if you're not familiar with it, and Carey loved having the organized rides to help him navigate it the first time.
He's ridden with the Spring Fling people in two different years, as well as an event at Big Bend Ranch State Park in Texas (that place is pretty hostile and much better with water stands and bike shops scattered along the trails). These things don't really dictate our travel plans, but they definitely are factored in and it's one really huge plus to living like this. People do travel to Arizona for the rides, but there's no way we would ever have done that. But if we're in the neighborhood...
Carey has write-ups, with photos, of some of his rides on
our website. He's amassing a pretty impressive list of IMBA Epic rides he's done, all of which is possible only because we're fulltiming.
I hope it works out as well for you. I would definitely suggest a second computer, though. We have three. :)
