Winter covers

This is all I do

I use a cover. It keeps leaves, dirt, bird droppings and other stuff off the trailer during the long months it is not being used during the off season. I appreciate pulling the cover off in the Spring to find a clean trailer that is ready to go for our first trip.

If parked under trees, it helps protect the roof. If you are not parked under trees, it does help ice from forming directly on the roof when snow melts and refreezes. But does it REALLY make any difference ... no. I've done it both ways, see no difference. New trailer (2 months old now), I'm not buy a cover for this trailer like I have in the past.

Just curious Poncho62 about your cover. I have been told by many people never to use a blue tarp as it acts like sandpaper against the finish of the camper as the wind moves it around. My service guy showed us a camper he was working on the roof of that had used a blue tarp to cover it and you could see on the edges where some of the paint had been rubbed off. Have you ever experienced anything like that?
We use an ADCO cover we got at camping world. In 13 years of owning our camper we are only on our 2nd cover. We cover to try and keep the bad ice and snow off the roof and keep it cleaner as our storage lot is right by a well used railroad.

I ues a Champion cover on our 96 Southwind. It helps keep it clean and protected from the sun. I've never had any damage from the cover rubbing the paint and, we get a lot of winter wind.
The Champion isn't the best cover but, it has held up for several Pennsylvania winters. When it fails, I will buy another cover.
A blue tarp will probably leave rub marks if you get any wind.

Yes - it is a good idea to cover it. It certanily will not hurt it. I would cover it. ADCO covers are currently on sale at Camping World. Mine doesn't get covered with snow, but if I lived in that climate, it almost seems like common sense - no harm intended to those who choose not to cover.

For the cover owners, is it OK to put the cover on when it is wet? When I went to put on my cover this past weekend the roof was wet. I took the hour and used a towel to dry it off. It would have been much easier to just throw it on.

I was just thinking about this on my drive to work this morning. When we bought our TT in 2010, we asked the salesman about adding a cover with our purchase, and he advised against it. We don't have trees near our parking pad, so no leaf debris collects, but it sure got dirty over the winter.

Now, with the MH, we're considering a cover. Would using pool noodles on the corner work to keep the cover off the corners? How do you protect the A/C, vents, etc. from the extra weight of the cover? Do they even need additional protection?

Also, if you cover, what brand do you use/recommend or did use/advise agains?

The salesman advised against it? This defies the definition of a salesman...

Pool Noodles work great! I use them for this.

No need to protect the A/C or vents. The weight of the cover is not significant.

My only experience has been with ADCO - good product IMHO.

What about the little rain gutter spouts on the corners of the roof?
