- Handyman_XenablExplorerOur dealer advised against covering our RV. He said the exterior is build to withstand the elements as long as you wash & wax at least a couple times a year and perform regular maintenance and checks.

X2!
Just a tarp to cover the roof area. I have a fear of snow and ice damming up over the winter and causing a leak somewhere. It would be about April before I would notice the damage and by then it could be major. Just a little peace of mind. - 2012ColemanExplorer II

What about the little rain gutter spouts on the corners of the roof? - Bill___KateExplorer

Or an old tennis ball with a hole punched in it works too...
We love the way our cover keeps the dirt and sun off the trailer. Goes on in about 20 minutes, comes off faster. I don't think I would put it on a wet roof, though.
We started with a cheapie that fell apart after a couple of seasons, but upgraded to a made in USA CalMark - semi custom fitted from Sunbrella brand fabric. Much, much higher quality than the cheapie ... - markandkimExplorer II

Camping World has the ADCO covers on sale - not sure if htis the the "cheapie" Bill & Kate referred to, but check their brand out, compare, look at reviews, price, and decide what product is best for you. I personally don't think the ADCO is low quality - maybe older models were not as good. I'm not a cheapie, and the products I buy tend to meet my high standards.Bill & Kate wrote:

Just curious Poncho62 about your cover. I have been told by many people never to use a blue tarp as it acts like sandpaper against the finish of the camper as the wind moves it around. My service guy showed us a camper he was working on the roof of that had used a blue tarp to cover it and you could see on the edges where some of the paint had been rubbed off. Have you ever experienced anything like that?
If you properly secure the tarp using all the grommet holes, the tarp shouldn't be moving around in the wind. - abc40kidsExplorerI covered my first two tt's and didn't cover my 5er (40 ft) I will cover the next one regardless of how big it is. The sun is what got mine, not the winter weather. Problem is I like to keep my slides open all the time, I'm always in and out of it.

The cheapie was "Expedition" brand that we got mail order. The CalMark we also got through the mail. I have looked at the Adco's and they look pretty good if one of the standard sizes fits your particular trailer properly .... - tvchenExplorerOn our first unit we covered it with an ADCO cover for the first few years. However, I found that it did more damage than good. No matter how tight we secured the cover, on a very windy day it would bellow and move slightly. This causes the cover to rub against the edge of the roof and other things. In the spring we found that there were very small "wear/rub" marks on the edge of the rubber roof which I then had to reinforce with small strips of eternabond to ensure it did not rub through the following year. Other thing was the cover only lasted about 4yrs. I never replaced it and now just leave it uncovered except for the AC. After a snowfall I just clear the edges of roof so that there is no ice dam build up from the thawing and freezing. On our new rig there are more fragile parts on the roof like HD antennas which would not take to kindly to the weight of a cover on top of it.
