Wintering In Arizona

If wintering in AZ how much if any do you have to prepare for lower winter temperatures? My rig is not a four seasons rig ie, no dual payne windows, no sealed underbelly, no heated tanks. Are these things needed in AZ in the winter?

  • We never had a freezing problem in Yuma. If you expect sub-freezing temps overnight, just disconnect the water hose. You can also open the lower interior compartments to bring heat to the water lines.
  • We have it freeze a couple time a year to keep the numbers from up north down.

As Thunder Mountain said last winter was very unusual - was told the it was the coldest winter in Quartzsite since 1988.

  • We also had our water hose freeze a couple of times last winter in Quartzsite, AZ. Other than that no issues with cold weather.
  • We winter in Coolidge, AZ and my water hose froze about 3 times last winter. Was thawed by 9 AM with no damage. Yuma will be warmer but in the valley around Phoenix is nice also. Tucson and the SE will be cooler as will north of Phoenix. The Colorado River valley is also warm. You should be fine with your unit without any other preparation.
  • It varies a lot depending on where you are. Phoenix is normally a little warmer during the Winter than the rest of the state. It did freeze this year several times in parts of the valley. We spent some time in Catalina State park down by Tucson during Dec. Jan. last year and had temps of 21-22 at night with snow and wind. Up to the 50's during the day with wind. Froze the water hose every night if not brought in. In White mtns or along the Rim it's very cold with lot's of snow. Most camp grounds are closed.

  • We have wintered in the Phoenix area for 6 years and have never done anything about cold weather. I believe one time last year it got down to 38 degrees. Usually every night will be in the 40s and the daytime temps will be in the mid-70s. PERFECT weather!!!!
  • Where in AZ? If in Phoenix just blowing out the water lines is usually enough. If in the mountains you will need to add antifreeze to the water system and remove the batteries.
