I think the best roof design is a one piece fiberglass/aluminum domed center roof that rolls over the side in a continuous fashion (Casita, Airstream, most cargo trailers). The joint is on the vertical and can be sealed with Z flashing.
Roof vents are a necessary evil. There has to be a better way to flash and caulk them.
I am surprised that no manufactures are using residential "mini-split" AC/heat pumps. I am sure then are more expensive and more difficult to install, but I think cutomer satisfaction would be much higher. Also, unless you did true cold weather camping (below freezing), you could eliminate the furnace.
