You have a 160 hp Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorcycle, easily capable of sub 9 second quarter miles, and a top speed in excess of 180 mph, easily do nearly 100 mph in first gear. Kid stops by carrying his helmet and wearing flip-flops, shorts, and no shirt...and a fistful of cash. He's never owned a motorcycle and got his license on a friend's borrowed dirt bike, but he's 18 and considered an adult.
Do you sell it to him, no questions asked, or do you consider it unwise to sell something to someone that clearly is going to get hurt, and probably very badly?
I had a buddy that worked at a motorcycle dealership. He faced this dilemma at least monthly (if not more often). In his motorcycle selling career, he sold bikes to kids that would eventually die or be seriously injured.... it was tough. But, he did recommend safety courses etc. Some states require them for under 18.
I buy and sell a lot of stuff. I think we have a moral obligation to make recommendations and then let the buyer make an informed decision.
