I guess the two sides of this thread can be summed up as follows.
There are some folks, who feel the need to protect everyone against their own actions, perhaps even to the point of impacting their rights or privileges.
Then there are folks who feel individuals have the right to make their own decisions, and do not need or want another individual, (or the government for that matter) to be their nanny and make decisions for them, by withholding goods or services they wish to purchase.
I know that no amount of argument from either side, is going to change the mind of the other side. It is what it is. This has been one of the more entertaining, and interesting threads of late. Everyone can come up with scenarios in an attempt to prove their point. The only point that ends up being proven, is one side feels the need or obligation to babysit the other, and one side feels it is an individuals choice, as a consenting adult, to do what he or she is going to do.
The motorcycle example is interesting. There is no law (I don't think) that says you can't ride with flip flops, shorts and no shirt. So why would a seller feel the need to enforce his personal objection on someone else. What if a pregnant lady came up and wanted to buy it? You could feel responsible for TWO lives.
C'mon folks... really? No one asked you to be the worlds enforcer of your own personal idea of safety.
Take a gun for instance. If you advertised a pistol for sale. Someone came up and bought it, and followed all the right paperwork etc, and the next day you read that they shot themselves in the head, would you feel responsible? They never said they would use it on themselves.
I like these discussions because they have a way of distinguishing those who feel individuals are responsible for their actions vs those who want to control others actions.
Love it
