Suppose in your motorcycle analogy, the individual showed up in overalls, shoes and a helmet. You sell to him, and then he pulls the overalls and shoes off, and puts on flip flops (has shorts on under overalls). Do you demand your money back because he's being irresponsible? Or, do you accept that you did what you could to save him from himself? Do you check the news each night for a week, wondering if he's killed himself? At what point is YOUR conscience clear?
There will always be something else you "could" do in pretty much any situation like that. The problem is, when have you gone too far? When are you going from doing what you feel is right (by your conscience or whatever) and infringing on anothers rights?
At the end of the day, individuals are responsible for their decisions (or should be) good, bad or indifferent. They decide what they want to do, or not do, not me.
Back to the OP, I do agree on pointing out to the individual the weight concerns/issues. If they say I have, and Im good, then unless they are going to break a law, I would sell it to them, and wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
As I said though.. definitely interesting debate.
