There are many laws against housing discrimination, withholding of services, refusing to serve customers, offering different terms to different classes of customers etc. Making up a fake reason won't cover your behind. That being said, they aren't going to come after an individual seller unless that violation is either egregious or the person who feels they were denied services decides to push the issue.wnjj wrote:fj12ryder wrote:
Wow, I had no idea that some people look at a social conscience as a drawback. Somehow I feel that if I have the ability to prevent someone from doing something stupid, I should act on it. If I see that guy start to step out in front of a car I'll say something instead of just figuring "He's a big boy, he'll figure it out", "Oops, guess not".
The social conscience part is where you attempt to educate the buyer. It stops becoming that when you actually refuse to sell because you don't agree with the buyer's position.
Your analogy fails because the seller did say something.
wwjj Sadly, YOUR "position" is what is wrong with the world today.. A total lack of care (or morals)towards others.. A sign of modern day "morals" (or LACK OF) where "everyone" is "right" and there is no wrong.
Folks USED to look after each other, now days not so much..
The SELLER has EVERY RIGHT to NOT SELL to anyone they feel is not "qualified".. In fact the SELLER especially now days in this suit happy society we live in should be very concerned about the qualifications of the buyer.
Seller should have not given a reason to the potential buyer, now if the buyer does buy it, they could easily build a case against the seller if for any reason something does go badly wrong..
I would have simply said something like sorry, we are not going to be able to make a deal.. Saying nothing about weights, just a no, will suffice, the seller is not obligated by any laws to disclose any and all reasons as to why they can't make a deal.
It IS that easy to do.
Most of the posts in this thread just makes me sick and disgusted..
And to be linked to these responses kind of makes one really consider never coming back to this forum..
Oh, and what makes me sick and disgusted is there are people who actually feel they are so superior that they actually have the right to decide if I should make a purchase or not.
