Interesting that you post this, as I was just thinking about my dad, who could repair anything. He was an electrical engineer who grew up in the Depression on a farm. He could fix cars, computers, literally anything. You could stand with him by an old piece of equipment and he could tell you what each part was for, including trains. It seems sad that his type of knowledge, which was once fairly common, has passed into obscurity in just a couple of generations.
