Before we had our pop-up, we only had the tent option. Then kids came which made the tent a little more difficlut (especially with kid #2). Went a few years with little to no camping except when staying in my parent's 5er. Then we jumped in an bought the pop-up. That made camping much easier and enjoyable with the family. Now that my son is in Boy Scouts, I bought TWO new tents this year; one for me and one for him. Of course, the family camp trips still use the pop-up and will for many, many more years.
