Wow...look out for the tree...

Leaving Windcreek SP around 10:15 this morning a large oak tree decided it wanted to block our path. Pulling through the campground the DW and I watched a large oak tree just fall over about 500 feet in front of us blocking the road. If we has left 30 seconds earlier that would have been sitting on us. We had to back up over 1000' in order to go out another road. The tree was rotted at the base and just gave up, I guess. The park was quick to react and by the time we were leaving the dump station I could hear chain saws clearing the tree.

Just an interesting end to a great week at the lake and something to talk a out for years to come.

Yeah I'd have waited 'til they cut it up before I backed up 1,000 feet. I hate backing up.

If I'd known they were going to remove the tree that quick I would have waited also.
  • Camper was parked in our driveway. One night 2 75ft tall pines just fell over. No wind. They just fell. Missed the garage and camper by inches.

No I mean days, weeks, months whatever it takes. I hate backing up :)
  • I was camping at a park near me on a perfectly windless night. When I got up in the morning I saw a branch laying near my pickup. I thought "Thank goodness that didn't hit my truck". Then I looked up to see the pickup windshield shattered (and I do mean shattered) and a great big dent in the fender.

What shocked me the most is that this branch, that was about 2 inches around, did that big of a dent to the fender. They had to replace the whole fender.

Modern vehicles are built out of Tinfoil and Tupperware.
