XPost: Is this WDH and sway control too much?

I'm in the process of buying a 2007 Fleetwood Arcadia

2007 Fleetwood Highlander Arcadia:
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), (lbs.): 3,970
Unloaded Vehicle Weight (UVW), (lbs.): 3,075
Unloaded Tongue Weight (UTW), (lbs.): 200
Maximum Carrying Capacity (MCC), (lbs.): 895

I found a great deal on an Equal-i-zer WDH with sway control that's rated for 600 lbs tongue weight and 6000 lbs trailer. Is this rating too high for the pup and could possibly bend the frame etc.?

My max towing/tongue weight with a WDH for my 97 4Runner is 5500/550.
  • Remember that you don't have to set the hitch at its max rating....You pull up the WD bars in increments, and the more you tension the bars, the more weight it "distributes" back to the trailer axle and forward to the front axle of the 4Runner. Even though the hitch will handle 600/6000 you don't have to run it at its max setting.

Sounds like a good deal, install it and adjust it according to the instructions. The goal is to get the trailer and the 4Runner to ride level.
  • Thanks for the replies, guys! The hitch sells for $750 from the factory, $575 from etrailer, and I found one that was $250 and used only once by a guy who towed a TT home from the dealership and decided a week later he didn't want to RV after all. I don't think I could have passed up the deal so I'm super glad you guys think it will work fine.

I personally think that Equilzer hitch with the 600 lb bars will work just fine for you.
  • The 4runners are notorious for rear sag. I' technically haven't hooked it up to see but most things I read said I would need one with a high wall pup.
  • We towed a very similar pop-up all over the West with a stock Ford Explorer. No weight distribution hitch....worked great.
