Apr 15, 2016The pump doesn't all of a sudden take on sediment once you're low on fuel. It takes on sediment everyday. Sediment lives at the bottom of the tank. Even after it has been disturbed it falls back down to the bottom of the tank. The pump's pickup point is always at the same spot, the bottom of the tank. Regardless if the tank if full or if it's empty, it has to deal with sediment. That's why socks, screens, and filters exist and are designed in a way to battle a lifetime of sediment. On a fairly new vehicle, there's not much sediment in the tank anyway.
