Saw a truly funny occurance. A fellow was carrying a 9.9 Evinrude down the beach to about a 14' tin boat. He proceeded to attempt to install the engine on the transom. First he stepped into the boat that was in the water with the bow on the beach just aft of the bow. He had stood the engine on the sand for the entrance into the boat. He then picked up the motor and headed aft. Well, he slipped on the boat hull and lost his balance. One large out of balance step aft ensued over the seat carrying the motor. He got one foot down on the hull but he now had a very serious inertia problem. He tried to stop to no avail and the inertia resulted in the engine gracefully arching over the transom and into 2 feet of water. Yes 2 feet! He leaped out of the boat and grabbed up the engine and walked it out of the lake onto the beach. He was very fortunate to get it out of the water quickly and after lifting the lid and drying everything off he attempted the installation again, this time through the water to the transom. Hooked up the fuel line and spent about 15 minutes pulling on the recoil starter fiddling with the throttle and the choke. I couldn't stand it any longer. I went over and squeezed up the fuel line pressure using the inline bulb and it started the next pull. He was real embarrassed and real thankful for the assistance and I expect likely very thankful that we didn't give the raspberry. Later that evening he stopped by our site with his wife and a bunch of adult beverages. We made it a point of getting together for a camping weekend every summer for a number of years but then he was transferred to a location that was prohibitive for a weekend
