I witnessed something similar to fla gypsy. I purchased a car in Needles, Ca. about ten years ago. I was hauling it on a car trailer back to my place. Heading west out of Needles on I-40. I was doing 60-65, as was the flow of traffic. Hot out, 110 degrees. Guy in a mid '90's F-150 hauling a fiberglass outboard boat about 18 feet long on a single axle trailer weaving in and out of traffic like a maniac. Passing all of us like we were standing still, an accident waiting to happen. if I said he was going 90, it is probably an understatement. A few minutes later, I see a huge plume of black smoke on the horizon. Traffic started to slow down somewhat. Smoke seemed never ending. Got up to where he was. He had side swiped a concrete bridge abutment, where the Interstate went over a dry wash some miles west of Needles, and spun out of control. Boat and trailer were upright in the Desert about fifty feet off the road, but I assume it flipped at least once. Fishing rods, coolers, and life vests spread along the Desert for over 100 yards. Engine compartment of truck was fully involved on fire. Truck was upright, blocking one and a half lanes of the two lane Interstate. Driver was sitting Indian style on the side of the road, crying and smoking a cigarette. A couple in a mini van stopped past the wreck, and were setting some bottles of drinking water next to him as I went around the wreckage. CHP was coming fast behind us on the shoulder. After I got around the scene, two more cars behind me made it through, then CHP arrived and blocked both lanes and shut the westbound I-40 down. I heard later that it was shut down for over three hours. At least he just totalled his truck and at minimum damaged his boat and trailer, but no one was apparently injured, and no other vehicles were involved in his accident. As many have already said, slow down, it is not a race.
