¿Question? Tamper-Proof Receptacles (Outlets)

Any definite knowledge, yes/no that tamper-proof receptacles are automatically "Spec Grade" which makes them far higher quality than ordinary contractor grade?

Probing 1 year old granddaughter's mind wants to know...

Thank you

  • I'm ordering (40) 6mm x 2mm N52 neodymium discs. Goop and (10) 3" x 4" 20 gauge 18-8 plates. 40 lb monofilament straps. Rivet a pull ring. Pilar caught Yvette waving a @#$%! ice pick. Any ideas for a 6-year-old-proof silverware drawer? Maybe I'll connect the electric fence electrodes to the brass knob.

No; the current (2014) NEC requires tamper-resistant outlets in residential installations (well, "dwelling units"). There are TR spec grade outlets available, of course, but tamper resistance does not imply spec grade, nor does spec grade imply tamper resistance.
  • Thanks!

Ratz. With ceramic tile floors this is dangerous. The 16 and 12 year old are careful but the six year old is careless with metal objects. Might have to glue N52 disc magnets onto the plates and cover with 18-8 swatches.
  • I doubt it. They're code and sold in box's of 10 at home Depot for contractors for less than 10 bucks.
