/ CHARGING RATE

I currently charge my twin group 27 deep cycles with a six amp manual charger via HONDA EU 1000. With the six amp charger hooked up am I charging both batteries at 6 amps or 3 amp each? I want a fast charge to minimize generator time. What amp charger would you recomend? Thanks guys

  • I can't imagine running a Genny to charge 2 27s at 6 amps total.

Max that Honda out with the products recommended. The 27's will be much happier despite grandpa's oft repeated 'trickle" charge always being best, which has been handed down through the generations.

I see this often on other forums. Someone will kill their battery and somebody else says to put it on a 2 amp trickle charger overnight, not aware that the ~24 amp hours returned might only be 1/3 or less the total capacity of the battery.

It might be enough to allow the car to start though. Poor abused batteries cant catch a break from the ignorance of the motoring public.
  • Six amp would take all day to charge. The total max output is 6a divided among however many batteries you connect. When charging by generator I would want 40a or more, gas isn't free.

How many amp does your converter output? You could always use both at the same time.
  • I would guess you have a Magnetek/Parallax converter. I would replace it with a good converter such as a Progressive Dynamics.

SMK is correct, the charging current is split between the 2 12v batteries.
  • Volts are split in series, amperage remains constant.
Amps are split in parallel, voltage remains constant.

They are each getting max 6A at 6V+ each.

    I'd recommend 15-20A.
