Good advice...but to remove them you have to remove the toilet. Might as well replace the seal with a new kit. Very inexpensive.... I think the kit was about $10 for my toilet. Just have to know the make and model of your unit.
I did ours. The seal kit comes with detailed instructions..basic tools and a little time + rubber gloves. Once out, I gave the whole toilet a good clean up and lube.
