I am The Pickle in the Pickle Barrel Quandary. Starvation Social Insecurity income. Car is a Dodge Spirit K car. Carring so much junk I must use a roof rack to carry all the spoils back to Michoacan. Ninety percent stays in Mexico while I summer in Guat. I have indeed lived for years on a truly rural Mexican diet. Tamales and coffee mornings and enchiladas and tacos in the afternoon plus tropical fruit. So I will not cook at all in Guat. With a Nook I can survive without becoming bored. The BORG the Samlex and the Lifelines go to Guat. Along with my home made LED lighting. Thinsulate comforter (which I have yet to buy and am thoroughly confused as to just how warm it is compated to down).
The car has a V6. It gets an honest 26 mpg on the open road has killer AC and auto trans which is mandatory with a crippled hand.
I get OEM pricing on Arctic Silver products and thanks to Landy's excellent report I am going to get killer heat sinks for all the power supplies. Black anodized gathers and radiates significantly more BTUs. The ones I have in mind are honeycomb and pricey.
I don't need a power supply that can stand on it's head and whistles Yankee Doodle in reverse. I do need PSs that LAST. But images of a modified 8955PEC-121220 would be appreciated. Image of where and value of resistor to be replaced with a Bourns 10-turn pot. Might as well make hay while the sun shines.
Once being in the electronics heat radiating/cooling business in the 1980's as a cost acct /financial manager, I can tell you that black anodize does increase the efficiency a lot, if out of direct sunlight, but probably not as much as some forced air flow. It also added significantly to the cost of each T-03 or double T-03 transistor heat sink. Anodize plating chemicals are hard on the environment too. My friend down the street that I grew up with, I worked in his fathers plating shop for a while, doing anodize, alodine, iridite finishes on aluminum part and passivation on SS parts, mostly aerospace mil spec grade stuff, that was most of the business in the San Fernando Valley during the space program during that era, before the State of CA or the EPA shut it down.
