you don't need to drain anything
you just need to connect another charging source and boost the voltage on the wires going into the RV circuits then turn on some lights
you asked about higher voltage, not low voltage
Thank you for the clarification, maybe I read that too fact :o
But our friend south of the border was correct and polite about it. I asked and it was too much (so I thought), and I'm okay with that. If I was wrong about my interpretation of his post, that's on me, too, and I'm okay with that ;) (as long as Mexicowanderer didn't find any unintended offense in my post)
Either way it's going to be an interesting situation....
I haven't made a 100% decision yet, but I think I'll be going with an inverter up front by the batteries (looking for a decent box for batteries and such), a NC relay on the converter so it will NEVER be on when the inverter is making power.
Then add automatic transfer switch on the incoming 120v line and inverter as sources to the house system, biased to the incoming line.
That way when I start/stop the generator with the remote, no chance of double-power. We spent extra for the convenience of a remote start, may as well follow through with that setup.
I thought about a multi-position switch to 'lockout' A/C, DHW, Microwave, Fridge A/C, but then figured we might want to power those some day and I can just as easily color code the breakers in the distribution panel.
I will have to separate the converter line from the receptacles and such with another breaker, which is a no brainer.
Jury is still out on replacing the existing converter. I *may* move it up front if I get a suitable battery box and run a heavy gauge 12v line back to the converter/distribution system.
Which...(circling back to the original thread) means I'll be looking for 120v LED bulbs shortly.
Thank you to all for the excellent info and patience on this (much rehashed?) topic :C
