Hi,
The alternator will indeed help--but not more than about 30 amps of the load when the engine is at idle. Total load is in the 150 amp range.
Choices are a large upgrade to the battery bank capacity (with medium to large solar), or burn some propane.
All my cooking is done electrically. My "instrument of choice" is a NuWave induction cooker. They require pure sine wave. I do use the microwave for heating left overs and beverages, but it draws 1591 watts, so I avoid long run times.

What would happen if I used the inverter and started up the MH engine? Would the alternators charging offset the draw from the inverter?
