also I have looked into a variable speed pump or a fixed speed and accumulator tank...not clear on how a variable speed pump on a on off system will work..there is no potentiometer on the system...so if you can send a link, would appreciate it.

were you thinking of the one way check valve just before the pump? like in the diagram RoyB posted

Mine has no filter, this I know...I installed a flush valve, for winterizing. What type of filter are being used on these systems.
