Dont know about the problem with hooking up the code reader, but the high idle, low idle deal, throttle position sensor, could be bad & not telling the computer what to do, so the engine idles crazy.
Another thing, fuel, like if the in tank pump is weak or the filters about stopped up & the correct amount of fuel pressure not getting to the fuel injector.
