2000 E450 Headlight change madness

This shouldn't be so difficult. My driver's-side headlight is dead. Do I just swap the bulb? If so, how? Do I swap the whole assembly? If so, how?

My manual is actually wrong; it points out screws/tabs that do not exist.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

  • It turns out that pulling up on the two black tabs allows the headlight housing to pop out.
  • They use replaceable Halogen bulbs that are held in place with a threaded Holder on the backside of the Headlight assembly.

First unplug the Blue Socket ,then Unscrew the Black retaining ring. Then extract the bulb.

Replacement lamp will be a 4004 or a 4007 ! Note Get the correct one!

    Available everywhere!
  • Here's a posting on Woodalls containing images on how to replace the bulb in your headlamp - I've never tried it but I've learned something as well. As GM owner, I'm used to removing a couple of bolts where the top of the lamp assembly connects to the core support.
    Hope that helps!
