2012 Cyclone 300C Electrical Mystery. (2me@least)

Setting the scene.

1.2012 Heartland Cyclone 300C Toyhauler.
2.50amp system through adaptor plugged into 30amp home service.
3.No tripped breakers in stick house or Toyhauler. All 12 volt fuses OK.
4.Power to full garage, fridge, microwave, vacuum 120 volt outlet in passthru, bedroom 120 volt outlets, bedroom air, 12volt lights.
5.No power to 120 volt outlet or seperate converter 120 volt outlet in passthru, 120 volt outlets on side of kitchen cabinet and under kitchen cabinet, bathroom GFI outlet or living room air. Thermostat has power, lights & display.
6.Generator will not turn over, battery weak.
7.Seperate battery charger placed on Toyhauler battery for 60 minutes, fluid levels were a little low, now good.
8.Problems all go away.

I am throughly confused. Power at back and front of Toyhauler, none in middle. How could the 12 volt DC battery have an impact on my 120 volt AC system? What do I need to check / replace? New battery, converter, etc?

Leaving for Destin Friday, need help.

  • Turned off house 30amp circuit to TT. Replaced old 50amp to 30amp adaptor with new and turned back on. Heard a loud clunk when TT re-energised. Transfer switch not fully engaged? Will let you know if mystery goes away.

Problem being, when my 12v battery is low I lose power to the above systems, 12v and 120v. When I charge the battery the systems, 12v and 12v, all come back on line. What does the battery have to do with the 120v?
You might want to check your transfer sw. since you have a genny. It might have 12vdc coils in the contactors and need a good battery to switch from genny to shore. I am only guessing like others on here.

  • Your toyhauler is set up to have 50 Amp service, so the input to it is 240 volts two phase. That means that each side of your breaker panel is getting 120 volts, but loads are on both sides of the panel.

When you feed it with a 30 amp RV plug that plug is 30 Amps, but only single phase. This kind of feed only feeds one side of a 240 volt panel.

In a nutshell, you are only feeding one side of your main breaker panel. All the devices that are not working are fed from the other side of your main breaker panel.

Go to your main breaker panel, and verify that the things working are on one side, and the things not working are on the other side.

A competent electrician could set up your system so you can get power to all your devices, but it must be carefully checked and also removed before you plug into anywhere else.
