2015 Dometic 15,000 AC doesn't even try to run

Hey all,

I bought a 2015 Work and Play in October of 2016. The AC worked at first with the exception of needing to seal the unit from the condensation from the roof.

Fast forward this Spring. I turned on the unit to make sure everything was working. It's just blowing. You can't hear the compressor even try to turn on.

What's the troubleshooting for this? I suspect the thermostat because of the fact you don't hear anything trying to kick on.

Everything is completely clean from top to bottom. The dealer that sealed it up said everything looks good and I shouldn't have any problems.

  • I think that's where I'm leaning too. I'll take it to the dealer and see what they will do.

Either the coolant has leaked out or the compressor is bad. Regardless of which the upper unit will need replaced. Doug

  • There is a recall on some of the 2015 Dometic A/c's. Pull the top cover and get the model number and serial number of the unit. Call Dometic and see if your unit is part of the recall. Ours quit last spring, called Dometic and they sent a mobile tech to replace it under warranty. They gave me a five year extended warranty on our 13500 btu A/C as it is also part of the recall but is still working.
  • Check the hard star cap. Look for the end to be blown out or crooked and maybe some stuff leaking out of it.
  • Go up on the roof, take the shroud off, cleanmthemcoils and try to spin the fan by hand. Mine was rusted up a few years ago and would not spin. Some WD40 and hand spinning was all it took.
  • if the fan is running then it may be the start capacitor is blown. If nothing at all then it could be the thermostat or even the breaker or wiring.
