220 Volt mishap
I went to plug in my RV inside my parents shop my dad had wired. The outlet is a 220 volts with three prongs. Something similar you would plug in a welder or compressor. I used the 30 amp RV receptac...

240V feeding 240V loads doesn't require a neutral but your RV 50A service absolutely does! Your RV does not use "240V". It uses 2 different legs of 120V and the neutral. The neutral is required to carry the difference in current between the 2 hot legs. Without a neutral you're essentially putting the 2 groups of "stuff" (each of the hot legs) in your RV in series with 240V applied. The amount of voltage to each group will vary WIDELY with the load on each. If you turn on a large load from one leg, it will pull the voltage down on that leg with a corresponding increase on the other leg so that the total always equals 240V. This will put considerably more than 120V on some stuff and much less on others. Google for "open neutral". It ain't pretty.
