Thanks for weighing in, wa8. I have a "fancy," new GMRS license now. And a pair of Wouxun KG-805G handies and a couple magnetic antennas for the car roofs. Was loud and clear through a repeater 36 miles away on one test. Not quite ready to go full ham yet, though. Too many hobbies as it is.

Yeah, and the Deka GC15s (vs GC10s) are rated at 230, so actually 460 total. There's probably less room at the bottom for sludge buildup, but that's a minor quibble relative to the added storage.
However, I disagree about the 1/4 usable. I got 10 years out of 3 -27s (could not fit more than 3 in that tray) taking them to 50% many, many times. I took good, diligent care of them otherwise. Of course hybrid RV batteries won't last near as long with that kind of punishment as some decent golf cart batteries will. But they're also a fair amount less expensive per Ah. So it pretty much comes out in the wash.
No, the primary benefit here is maxing amp hours in the tray and easier recovery to 100%
