So, when you need to run off the gen, plug the short male plug into the female box. When you want to run off the camp grounds power, plug the short male into a 30 amp extension with a female on one end and a male on the other..

that is the way my first MH fleetwood flair was set up. I just left the plug plugged into the box which was from the generator so that I could easily start up the generator and get juice to the RV and when I had 120 available at the camp ground just unplugged from the box and hooked up to the post.
IIRC my full 30 ft or whatever was attached to RV and I plugged that into the generator outlet. If storage in that area was tight, the OP might have shortened the cord to store the bulk of it elsewhere.
