absolutely no need for it. I just left my plug plugged into the generator output so I could just crank up the generator and have juice automatically. when I got to a campground I would just unplug from there and plug into the post.
the only time it would be an issue was in the middle of the night in a rain storm if the power on the pole went out, you would have to go out and move the cord to your generator outlet.
