30/50 amp vs. adding the second optional ac unit

So going down to South Carolina again and while the main ac unit works fine here in ND we decided to get the second ac unit installed. 5vr in my signature comes "factory ready" for a second ac and a washer/dryer unit.

Here is the question, the 5vr is technically 50 amp because of the "add on" features that I mentioned and we have had no issues using 30 amp sites at campgrounds. Now with the second ac running will I need to stay in 50 amp sites? Not sure what the original or main ac size is but we are getting a 13,000 BTU low profile unit added.

  • I run two A/Cs all of the time during our hot Alabama summers on a 30amp service, just use a 50-30amp dog bone. Fridge and water heater are both on propane. Just mark sure every one is cognisant about the limited power and to not turn on the microwave or use a hair dryer.
  • You can still stay in 30 amp sites with two A/Cs as long as you only run one A/C at a time.
  • "with two heavy-draw appliances (both A/C's) you want one on L1 and one on L2 on your 50 amp RV"

That makes sense, thanks for the quick replies everyone, love this site!
  • It is wired 50 amp, we just always used the "dog bone" when we camped in 30 amp sites with only one ac unit and no dryer.
  • Yes, with two heavy-draw appliances (both A/C's) you want one on L1 and one on L2 on your 50 amp RV. So, yes assuming your shore power cord is 50 amp (4 prongs) THAT is what you need.
  • If its wired 30 amp with a/switch then you can only run one or the other if wired 50 amp you can run both when on 50 amp service

If your rig comes equipped with a 50a plug, wiring, panel..etc, then yes. It's not clear to me that's the case.
