What kind of Generator? I ask because "jobsite gennys" are often rated at 240-VAC. That's two 120-VAC legs at half the rated wattage. So a 3500-watt jobsite genny provides two 1750-watt circuits. A campsite genny, say 3000-watt Honda, lets you draw all 3000 from one circuit.
So find out how the generator is set up. Harbor Fright, who I don't necessarily recommend for generators, only as an example, had two jobsite type gennys. One of them featured a 30A outlet. That setup would start and run a rooftop A/C.
Most jobsite-style gennys are noisy.
