4@12v = 24v
I'm installing 4 -12v AGM batteries to power a 24v inverter. This is my first choice for wiring: and my second: Any pros or cons to either one?

Personally I would choose series over parallel. Assuming you start will all new batteries of the same capacity, and you maintain them properly, there is probably less of a chance of an imbalance developing in the first place.
