47 code on a 5500 Onan

Im at my last straw trying to figure this out please help. After I start my Onan 5500 Marquis gold it runs for about 2 hours then shuts off. No sputter runs like a sewing machine but shuts down with a 47 code which is Ignition code. I changed plugs and brushes and it still shutting down. After it shuts down after the 2 to 3 hours it will not start back up and continues to throe that code.Im hoping its not the magnetos but if it runs so well I don't think it could be them. Is there a controller between the magnetos and the computer board? Im wondering if a faulty oil sensor could send a false code. Let me know if anyone has had similar problems.
  • Post the complete Model/Spec/Serial number so we'll know exactly what you have.

Onan made a whole lot of 5500 models from some time in the 1950's on.
  • Maybe you have already tried to troubleshoot using the internet web. But, here is a site I found that speaks to your particular problem.
