Only one of the hot terminals would read 240 to the neutral terminal if the other hot wire and neutral wire are reversed. The OP read 120 from each hot terminal to the neutral terminal, which does not tell the whole story of course. He also read 120 from the neutral terminal to the ground terminal, and that's what gives us the "Ahh-ha!" reading to suspect the neutral and one hot leg are reversed. A 240 reading from the neutral terminal to one of the hots would serve to verify that, but it's probably not needed to justify having a qualified maintenance person check out the wiring in the box. I wouldn't be surprised to find out the outlet had been recently changed.
