The interior wiring of the hockey puck type adpaters is a weak point. They use smaller gauge wire then found in dogbone style. The wire is wrapped into the sandwiched connectors as in many is not soldered.Additionally, whatever heat is produced from the two connections is concentrated in a smaller area, making it harder to dissipate.
