50 Amp Surge Protector

I bought a 50 Amp surge protector that plugs into the main RV grounds power box. The lights on the surge protector indicates reverse polarity. Does the connection at the main box have to be fixed to the right polarity in order for the surge protector to work properly?
  • what is "reverse polarity" on a 50 amp outlet? I can see on a 30 amper where the hot and neutral could be reversed, but on a 50 amp outlet if one of the hots was switched with the neutral making the neutral hot, you would have a hot to hot connection???????? wouldn't that be sort of a "mess"?

    Do not use that pedestal!!!

Have you tried the surge device on a different pedestal to establish that it's OK? A 50A plug is a common household circuit/plug and normally there would be little chance of it being miswired. The pedestal could have an open wire and the device is indicating a polarity problem.

    What brand/model do you have?

Ah hah! I will try that. It's a progressive industries model ssp-50.

That's what I thought. I will talk to the owners on Monday.
