50amp shore power outlet to 15amp "side of house" receptacle

I am having my 30amp 5th wheel converted to 50amp service. I park my RV on the side of my house, where there is a 15amp household outlet less than 8 feet away. I have always plugged my 30amp cord into that outlet, using a 30 to 15amp adapter.

Here's the deal. My 30amp cord was of the old "pull it out of the little hatch" variety. I only had to pull the cord out slightly to hook it up to the 15amp outlet. No muss, no fuss.

The new 50amp service cord will be of the "twist-lock" type. Therefore, I would have to have the entire, 25 foot cord outside, laying on the ground, in order to use it with an 50/15amp adapter. I would rather not do that.

The ideal situation would be some sort of a short, 50amp twist-lock cord or adapter that I could plug into the nearby 15amp outlet. The long 50amp shore cord not being used at all.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Since this electrical connection is strictly for maintaining the battery, I think I will just stick with my present 15amp outlet.

Anyway, I found this at Amazon, which looks to be exactly what I was looking for:

Just add a battery cutoff switch then no plug is necessary.

Twist lock would not be my choice for an upgrade.

Interesting post. Why not? It's likely the most secure shore power connection you can make.

You just have to love opinions....It's like the old saying....everyone has one!
  • Secure yes, but it has much less actual contact area. Not a problem until high amperage devices are in use.

The other issue is finding one "on the road" vs going to Walmart for "standard" 50 or 30 amp connectors. You may be hard pressed to find a replacement.

Seeing as how this connector is strictly for use here at my house, I'm not gonna worry too much about finding a replacement "on the road". When I am actually camping, the normal shore cord will be used.
