7345 converter fan runs alot more

I have a 2002 31BHSS Trail Bay that we use at a seasonal site that has electrical hookup. My Magnetek 7345 converter fan runs a lot more than it used to, like every 20 min. and I don't use a battery except towing it home. Could this be a sign that the converter is starting fail?

    Hi guys

I have had an opportunity to repair 20 or 30 of these units over the years. As CloudDriver pointed out get that dust out of there it will destroy the unit. Taking it a step further behind that Silver Metal shield shown in his photos is a 2,700ufd 25Vdc cap and 5 resisters seen inside the red circle below. 90% or more of the repairs involve these parts, suggest you take it out and take a look. If you can use a soldering iron and have a drill to get the pop rivets out the job is very simple < 20 minutes with < $10.00 in parts.

I was only able to remove the dust in the front of the converter as shown in my picture. I didn't see an obvious way to get further back to check for dust. I did vacuum of the fan screen, but that didn't do anything for what dust was underneath. Is it necessary to remove a bunch of wires in order to get at the back side of the board?
  • You will need to remove the converter from the RV to get to the internals. Four wires two for the AC input and two for the DC output nothing more
Typically two screws hold it in place it then slides out forward
In order to get inside you will need to drill out the rivets holding the case together - it's a simple 5 or 10 minute job

    A suggestion
Might want to use compressed air instead of a vacuum to get that dust out
  • A Tip:

I cannot believe how handy a camera is to document incremental steps disconnecting wires, etc when reassembling. Sometimes I take 20 images.

I am in the process of repairing a 42" Sylvania flat screen with shorted FET's and diodes in the power supply. Rather than worry about the absence of a schematic I'll take images.
