never happened to me in the last 3 years even at -30 on the same batteries. works every time i turn on the heat. if your worried bring a extra set in your pocket takes seconds to change.
I don't like battery powered (i.e. AA battery powered) thermostats. It is all too easy for the battery to freeze. Then you turn up the setting, and nada happens
