Good price on that 5100 vs the 5000 earlier, but still twice the CanTire digital one. What do you get for your money by buying the more expensive digital one?You get backlight and the name Honeywell on it. I've replaced a few residential thermostats and Honeywell makes some of the best. Hunter is not that bad, either.
Probably one of the most bullet proof thermostats is the old, round, Honeywell bimetallic model. I last had my hands on a mercury thermostat about ten years ago. AFAIK, they are outlawed. Too bad about mercury now being so fatal (as kids we used to play with puddles of the stuff). The old GE mercury light switches were some of the best, durable, silent, and toggle lit faintly.
